Time – our most precious commodity

Time is free, but it’s priceless. You can’t own it, but you can use it. You can’t keep it, but you can spend it. Once you’ve lost it you can never get it back. – Harvey MacKay

We live in a very materialistic world where what we own, what we drive or where we work are very important to us, sometimes to the detriment of everything else.  If we are a little more ‘grounded’ we may include our family and our health in our list of valuable commodities. However, the most valuable thing we will ever have in this world is TIME.

Too often we try to control time, or at least alter it.

But this is impossible to do, no matter now clever we are or how hard we might try.  We cannot buy it, rent it, borrow it, store it, save it, renew it, or increase it.  All that we are able to do is spend it!  If you do a job quicker you have not saved time, it cannot be saved for future use because it must be spent now.

Everything in our life is governed by time, this includes success and failure.  You can get a new job or a new car or house, but you cannot get anymore time.  Unlike other resources such as money and knowledge, time is the only aspect of our lives that is truly equal to all people.

“Each human being has exactly the same number of hours and minutes every day. Rich people can’t buy more hours. Scientists can’t invent more hours.” – Dr. Denis Waitley.

Don’t Waste Time

Given this simple fact, it is incumbant on all of us not to waste the precious time we have on this planet.  after the time that we commit to work, sleep, family and survival (shopping, growing & eating), what is left is what we call ‘spare time’.  This time is not really spare because as each second goes by it is lost!  therefore we must plan and utilise this ‘spare time’ effectively and efficiently.

Don’t waste that ‘spare time’ stuffed up indoors sat in front of the TV or PC/Tablet.  Put on the shoes/boots and plan a trip outside.  Get out in the fresh air and walk.  This is important on so many levels.

  • It improves our physical fitness
  • It improves our general health and slows the onset or reduces the impact of many serious illnesses
  • It improves are state of mental wellbeing

But more importantly it uses what time we have on this planet in the very best way possible.
